CRITIQUE 2

-Golden Arm

There are a lot of rectangles in this picture. Everything is very simple and solid. It is names “The Man With the Golden Arm” but the arm sticking down into the middle of the picture is black and the lettering is gold. The whole picture is straight and angular as well as the font. I really like that the font goes so well with the picture.

-Afternoon

This is very simple and I love how it is all put together. It looks like a square black window shade with the seam horizontal at the bottom . All the words, which are the actor’s names, are also horizontal matching the name of the movie. The hook in the shade is vertical like the window shade.

-Dylan

The use of white and black space in this picture is really neat. There is a figure of a person with very colorful wavy hair. The hair sticks out a lot and seems to be the focus of the picture although the black outline of the face against the white background really stands out too

-Man On the Moon

This is a Life magazine cover with most of the picture being the moo. The focal point is the reflection in the face part astronaut’s suit. It reflects what he is seeing on the moon and looks cool because the edge of the reflection and the edge of the moon we see runs together. Most of the picture is white with a black background representing space. I like that the words “to the moon and back” are in a linear positition like the astronaut and the word “Life” is horizontal like the edge of the moon. The whole picture is red, white and, blue and black and very much represents the United States with those colors and the flag on the arm and reflection.

-Esquire

This is a magazine cover for Esquire picturing a open can of tomato soup with a man stuck in the soup reaching out. He looks like he has a white wig on and might be a political figure. The colors are red, white and black with Esquire at the top in big bold black lettering.

-Beggarstaff Harper

This looks like line art. The dominant color is red. It incorporates the background into the picture and actually makes the red the mans body without actually doing anything. It looks like a magazine cover or add for an Artistic Supply Company. I like how you can tell what it is from the red background even though it’s just a few lines that don’t really make a whole picture.
